The standard for mentorship in medicine

Mentors can be from well-represented and under-represented backgrounds in medicine. All mentors must meet minimum criteria to be eligible, such as undergoing a nomination process or demonstrating a positive track record with learners.  The minimum requirements for mentors are set by each subscribing institution.

Mentees gain access to the local and national database of mentors and training modules which cover content such as financial fitness, mental health, how to develop a learning plan and much more. Mentors gain access to the local and national database of mentees, mentor training modules with optional CME credit and institutional reward for meaningful participation in the program. Training modules cover competencies such as mentoring across difference and giving meaningful feedback.  

MentorMeMed recognizes that altruism alone is not a long-term solution to successful mentorship. It leads to burnout and the common problem of the “minority tax.” This program invites institutional investment, mentor reward, and collective responsibility into the infrastructure of mentorship for students and trainees from underrepresented backgrounds in medicine.

In many cases, MentorMeMed can partner with your institution to serve the medical students and trainees from URiM, 1^st generation, and low SES backgrounds in a legally compliant way. For example, some anti-DEI laws make exceptions for national accreditation standards which require demonstrated recruitment and support of these underserved populations. Moreover, you may be able to partner with us in other creative ways, such as through medical society membership that trainees can access.
